Waitrose Food – The Christmas portraits

Five portraits, five very different Christmas’s, a great challenge!

Caroline Billington, founder of Community Christmas photographed by Alun Callender for Waitrose Food At the Fair Close Community Centre, Newbury, Uk Caroline Billington, founder of Community Christmas, a charity that ensures no one is lonely on Christmas Day (communitychristmas.org.uk) – She hosts her own Christmas dinner on Christmas Day every year for her local community near Newbury. It’s focused on the elderly but doesn’t discriminate based on age. I’d like you to weave in the charity and why she set it up through talking about this special event that she holds each year. Caroline says she hates Christmas, which is why she has built her charity around it!

Anne Parkes and her daughter Rowan (late 20s) having an Indian takeaway on Christmas Day – Anne once had an Indian takeaway with her mum (Rowan’s grandma, now deceased) at home in Fishguard, Wales and is keen to talk about it as a nice memory of her mum. Rowan and her mum sometimes spend Christmas just the two of them and I think they’re happy to make the Christmas Day takeaway a new tradition!

Gabriel Pryce, chef formerly at Rita’s and now opening new restaurant Quilombero in East London, hosting friends there with his partner Missy Flynn, who does front of house and drinks. This will be a pre-Christmas setting – the chef hosting at his restaurant. The food will reflect the restaurant’s menu rather than a traditional Christmas dinner. The restaurant is an Argentine/Italian concept.
